HANDLING A POOR ASSESSMENT

In the early months of my career, I received a bad quarterly appraisal review, and my first feeling was a very dark depression. Every voice in my head was echoing the same thing: “You have failed. You are probably a failure.” and so on. Nothing came close to a motivation to do better.

So, I understand firsthand what failing an assessment could feel like. But when you fail, instead of crying or moaning, do this: #first, clear your head, either by taking long walks, seeing a movie or whatever works for you. #Next, find a quiet space to think and write. Write down what you think you did wrong and what you can do about it. #Lastly, talk to someone who can give you honest feedback on what you’re not doing well.

Don’t get me wrong, even after my experience, I went on to fail some more in other things later, but I knew how to get myself up and forge ahead. You too can. Cheers.
