Thank you Ngozi.
He was born as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, but became popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi, a title which meant “Venerable Gandhi”. To discuss leadership without as much as a mention of him, is unacceptable.
Gandhi, who was assassinated in 1944, is remembered for many things, chief of which is his doctrine of Non-violent resistance in the political struggle for independence from the British. He came upon this principle in his years of discipleship under Leo Tolstoy, who taught, in his Letter to a Hindu, that only by love and non-violent resistance can India be free from the British.
For Gandhi, the principle of non-violent resistance, is more than a political strategy; it was a pure path to a noble desire. And the pain, starvation, suffering that came with it, were the sacrifices every leader must bear.
Friend, along with leading a cause, comes the necessary price of sacrifices, inconvenience, and often, incredible sufferings. You must be willing to pay, if you will win. Cheers.
